This short film is a farewell letter to the city’s Palm trees through the stories and memories of Mexico City residents. Almost a hundred years after their introduction to the capital, more than 75% have died in the last five years. The postcard of a tropical city has been replaced by that of a withered dream that makes us delve into our memories to question our relationship with the environment.

Director – Yesenia Novoa Rodriguez

Mexican documentary filmmaker and editor graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (UNAM). She has directed, written and edited several documentaries with which she has participated in international and national festivals. In 2017, with “Pomuch – Peninsular Stories vol. I” (documentary short film) and in 2021 with “City of the Cunning” (documentary short film). In 2024 she finished her third documentary short film “The Shadow of the Palm Trees”. She is currently developing her first feature documentary “I was born in the State of Mexico”.

Director – Magali Rocha Donnadieu

Is a Mexican producer graduated from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico. She studied literature at the Paris 7 University and specialized in cultural journalism. She took film production courses at the Institut National de l’Audiovisuel, the Fondation Européenne pour les Métiers de l’Image et du Son, as well as at the École d’Animation Les Gobelins (France). She worked at different festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel, and Les écrans documentaires. She has produced several short films with her production company Amate Films, awarded by various international film festivals. In 2020, she premiered her first documentary feature film, “Volverte a Ver” — a documentary that explores the phenomenon of disappeared in Mexico. In 2021, she directed and produced “Llueve” — a short film that won several festivals and was presented at the Annecy Festival and at La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. Her works have been nominated for 5 Ariel awards in Mexico. She is currently developing two animated feature films: “The Origin of the Experience” by Zulu González (La Corriente del Golfo) as well as “El Rastro de tu Sangre en la Nieve (Cine Tornado).
