This is a documentary about Kaiping Diaolou and Stucco Carvings. The film takes the overseas Chinese May Fong Yee’s quest for her roots as the longitude and the restoration of Stucco Carvings by the Xie family, the inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage, as the latitude, presenting the cultural origin, inheritance and development of Kaiping Diaolou and Stucco Carvings, and exploring the cultural and clan connotations and identity contained in Diaolou and Stucco Carvings.

Qiu Zhanfu graduated from the Department of Broadcasting and Television Directing at Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University with a bachelor’s degree in 2024. He grew up in a hometown of overseas Chinese with a strong historical and cultural heritage – Chikan Town, Kaiping, Guangdong. As a child, he learned the local traditional intangible cultural heritage technique – Kaiping Stucco Carving. The shooting style is fresh and realistic, with a preference for the presentation of local customs. The language used in the shot is quite simple and honest with a rustic atmosphere. In his college years, he coordinated the filming of multiple documentaries on intangible cultural heritage, always committed to spreading and promoting the culture of overseas Chinese and the intangible cultural heritage of hometown, bringing about assisting in rural revitalization.
